Hey Kids! Join the Green Squad, and make your school and environmentally safe place. On this web site you can download and print a poster to hang in your classroom with tips and things to remember on how to be " green". There are also easy suggestions that any one of you can do to help your school become more green. Print out the checklist and encourage your teacher and your classmates to help you! Have fun with it, make it a school wide project and see what a difference you can make!

Where it all started
I am a mom and teacher looking for ways to help the environment. I was inspired by my children and our love of the ocean to try and do our part.

For the Kids!
This is a challenge for all the kids out there who want to help save the Earth. Start a recycling program at your school this year. I hope many of you already have them in place, but if you don't, tell your teacher you need one this year. If you have one at your school, make sure your teacher and the school are using them correctly. Some schools say they are recycling, but often times it all just ends up in the trash.
Another way kids can help is to start an after school group that can help clean up an area of your neighborhood. Pick a spot, maybe even your own school playground, and agree to meet once a month to clean up all the trash. You'd be surprised at how much garbage is out there that you just don't notice anymore.
Lastly, why not start a garden at your school this fall. There are usually many places on a school campus that could use a little sprucing up. Find a good spot for some flowers to cheer up the school entrance, or maybe even a tree or two. You would not only be helping the planet, but also creating a memory of something special you did with your friends for the school one day. Why not give something back?

What Can You Do?

2. Turn up your thermostat just one or two degrees in the summer, and down just one or two degrees in the winter
3. Unplug your electrical appliances when they are not in use
4. Walk or ride a bike when you can
5. Pick up the trash you pass instead of just walking over it
6. Take reuseable bags to the grocery store. If you can't, remember to recycle those plastic bags or reuse them at home.

It is so nice to see you are still blogging! What are you plans for your classroom this year?
I hope to start a recycling program at my school this year. We waste a lot of paper as well as glass and plastic bottles and cans used by teachers throughout the day. Even if it means loading the recyclables each week into my own car and bringing them home, then that is what I'll do!
